SuitUP™ Classic
SuitUP - Game Instructions
SuitUP™ is an exhilarating, fast-paced card game where strategy, timing, and a little bit of luck are key.
Objective:
Be the first player to get rid of all your cards by forming valid sets or runs and discarding your final card.
Setup:
- Deck: SuitUP uses an 8-suit deck. For the traditional game, remove all Wild Cards.
- Players: The game is best played with 4 -6 players.
- Dealing: Each player is dealt 9 cards. Place the remaining cards in a draw pile and turn over the top card to form the discard pile.
- Play Order: Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
Gameplay:
Dealing Cards:
- 2 Players: Deal 14 cards to each player.
- 4 Players: Deal 9 cards to each player.
- 6 Players: Deal 8 cards to each player.
- 8 Players: Deal 7 cards to each player.
Turns:
-
Start of Turn: On your turn, you must pick up either:
- The top card of the discard pile, OR
- The top card of the draw pile.
-
Laying Down Cards:
- To lay down cards, you must form one of the following:
- A Run of 4 cards: Cards must be in sequence and all different suits.
- Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank (e.g., 3 Kings), regardless of suit.
- On your first laydown, you may only lay down one of the above options and can not add to another players pile
- To lay down cards, you must form one of the following:
- Discard: After laying down, you must discard one card to the discard pile. Play then moves to the next player.
Runs and Aces:
Aces can be used as high or low in runs. For example, valid runs include:
- Ace-2-3-4 (low run)
- Queen-King-Ace-2 (over the top
Runs must still have all different suits.
Completing Runs or Sets:
Once a full run (8 cards, one of each suit) or 8 of a kind is completed, that pile is turned over and is no longer active for other players to add to.
Subsequent Turns:
Once you’ve laid down your initial set/run, you may:
Add to your own laid down cards or other players' laid down piles
- For Runs: Continue the sequence, ensuring all cards are still different suits.
- For Sets: Add cards of the same ranks
After playing cards, you must still discard to end your turn.
Special Rule - "May I":
- If a card is discarded and it’s not your turn, but you want that card, you can say "May I".
- If no players before you want the card, you may take it, plus the top card of the draw pile.
- If another player before you wants the card, they must take it along with the top card of the draw pile.
- The person who says "May I" does not discard after picking up the two cards.
- Play continues with the original player.
- Be cautious! If you use "May I" too often, you may end up with too many cards.
Ending the Game:
- A player wins by laying down all their cards and discarding their final card.
- The remaining players must total the value of the cards still in their hands:
-
- Face cards (Ace, King, Queen, Jack) = 10 points each
- Number cards = Face value (e.g., a 7 is worth 7 points).
- Aces can count as 1 or 10, depending on how they’re used in runs.
- The player with the lowest total score wins.
