SuitUP™ Cascade
Game Name: SuitUP™ Cascade
Players: 3-8 players
Deck: 112 cards (8 suits, each with Wild and Action Icons)
Objective: Be the first player to get rid of all your cards by matching the number or suit of the top card in the discard pile. Use wild and action cards to gain an advantage and disrupt your opponents.
Setup:
- Shuffle the deck of 112 cards thoroughly.
- Deal 7 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down to form the draw pile.
- Flip the top card from the draw pile to start the discard pile.
Gameplay:
-
The first player starts by playing a card from their hand that matches the top card in the discard pile. A card can be played if:
- Same Number: Play any card with the same number as the top card in the discard pile.
- Same Suit: Play any card from the same suit as the top card in the discard pile.
-
If a player cannot play a valid card, they must pass their turn and the next player continues.
-
Wild Cards: Wild cards allow a player to change the suit or number in play:
- Wild Card (Any Suit): Can be played at any time to change the suit of the discard pile.
- Wild Card (Any Number): Can be played at any time to change the number of the discard pile.
-
Action Cards: Action icons trigger special effects when discarded. Each action has unique effects on the game:
-
S (Swap/Skip Icon) Swap: When a card with the Swap icon is played, the player must choose another player to swap hands with. This creates a surprise twist and can disrupt your opponent’s strategy. Skip icon is played, the next player must skip their turn.
- Swap Tip: Use this to slow down players who are gaining momentum or nearing a win
- Skip Tip: Use this when you're one card away from winning or to get a better hand from a struggling opponent.
-
R (Reverse Icon): When a card with the Reverse icon is played, the direction of play is reversed.
- Tip: Play this when the flow of the game is against you, or when you want to confuse your opponents and buy yourself more time.
-
D (Draw Icon): When a card with the Draw icon is played, the next player must draw 2 cards from the deck and skip their turn.
- Tip: Use this to burden your opponent with extra cards when they are close to winning.
-
-
Passing: If a player cannot play any valid card on their turn, they pass and must skip their turn. If they have no cards left to play at any point during the game, they are out, and the last player remaining wins.
Winning the Game:
-
The game continues until one player has played all their cards. This player is declared the winner.
-
Tip for Winning: Stay strategic with the use of action cards, especially the Swap and Draw icons. They can drastically change the flow of the game and give you the edge to win!
Special Variations and Tips:
-
Use of Wild Cards:
- Wild cards are perfect for forcing your opponents to work with a different number or suit. They offer flexibility, so use them wisely.
- Remember, wild cards cannot be used to win if the Suit Cascade strategy is employed.
-
Strategy with Action Cards:
- Swap Icon: This is your secret weapon. If an opponent has only one card left, swapping hands with them can change everything. But be careful — swapping with someone who has fewer cards might not always be a win!
- Skip Icon: If someone is playing too fast or if they’re about to win, skipping their turn can slow them down and give you some breathing room.
- Reverse Icon: Reversing the direction can either help you out or send your opponents into a frenzy. Use this to gain control of the game.
- Draw Icon: When opponents have fewer cards left, playing the Draw icon can dramatically impact their chance of winning.
-
Play with More Players:
- The more players, the more action cards are likely to come into play. Plan your moves carefully, especially when multiple action cards may come into play at once.
- Tip: Keep track of who has played what — this will help you anticipate the use of action cards and plan your strategy accordingly.
-
Speed Variant:
- For a faster-paced game, you can implement a rule where if you cannot play a card, you must immediately draw 1 card from the deck, rather than passing. This keeps the game moving and increases the challenge.
Example of Play:
- Player 1 flips the 5 of Hearts from the draw pile to start the discard pile.
- Player 2 plays a 5 of Diamonds (matching the number).
- Player 3 plays a 5 of Clubs (matching the number).
- Player 4 plays a 5 of Spades (matching the number).
- Player 1 plays a Wild Card (Any Suit) to change the suit to Diamonds.
- Player 2 plays a Reverse Icon to change the direction of play.
- Player 3 plays a Draw Icon to make Player 4 draw 2 cards and skip their turn.
- Player 4 is now out of cards and wins!
